Google has effectively eliminated its most famous perk. Employees can no longer take a day of the week to work on side projects.
Not that I really care about what Google does or doesn’t do, but this article caught my attention nevertheless.
Does it make sense from a company perspective? 20% of the payroll is a whole lot of money, or in other words, a theoretical 20% increase in productivity could make a big difference - regardless the company. Said that, some of the most successful Google services, like Gmail, were incepted thanks to this time, so it’d be fair to say that it wasn’t by any mean wasted resources.

Something I know for sure though, recruiters at Google are going to have a hell of a harder time to keep “acquiring talent” with these new company policies, don’t you think? Am just saying.
